The First Seeds

Posted on 22. Feb, 2009 by Justin in My Garden Diary

At last the weather has let up and the snow is long gone so I’ve been able to get out in to the garden to plant my first seeds. I’ve been a little more cautious this year waiting until the worst of the winter is behind us. I could be proved wrong but with a little help from my cloches the new seedling should have the best chance of germinating.

Outside I’ve planted Broad beans and garlic. Inside the house I’ve planted chilli’s and lettuce in my propagator. Chilli’s need a temperature of 20 degrees to germinate so there should be no problem in the house.

I recently read that you should wait until the soil is 6 degrees before planting broad beans outside so I think might be pushing it. However, I’ve planted some extra seeds in pots under my cloche in case I need to replace any of the plants which don't germinate.
